Stories change the world.

Let’s make them strong.

Let’s make them loud.

My Process…

Before I get started with the book itself, I always read the author’s original query, synopsis, and first ten pages. Understanding how the author sees and positions their book allows me to take their perspective into account from the beginning of the editorial process.

This initial step allows me to determine the state of the manuscript and estimate a turnaround time for the project.

If I can complete the project to my standard in the deadline that is requested, that’s an indicator that we will be great partners! I am a thorough reader, and do not take rush projects.

Based on my assessment of the manuscript and how many editorial rounds are requested, we will negotiate a fee. I know most independent publishers and authors keep a budget, and I do like to keep that in mind in addition to the scope of the work.

The Edit…

Manuscripts are returned with margin notes for specific recommendations, observations, and general reading commentary. These are designed to guide the author through their revision process and enlighten them to how readers may perceive the book.

In addition to margin notes and occasional line edits, I will also provide a comprehensive editorial letter to discuss the greater scope of the work as a whole, and the major points of focus for revision.

I hold a designated time for office hours each week that I dedicate to responding to author inquiries and requests regarding their work. I am also receptive to meeting through Zoom if needed. My priority is to ensure authors feel supported with their book and in their craft.

Let’s get to work.

Whether you are slaying dragons, unearthing forgotten history, or exploring the human condition, I would love to have your project on my editing schedule. Please include a synopsis, word count, and any deadlines. Let’s get to the gritty!
